Back to School With Name Practice

Hey there teacher besties! Today I am here to share some back to school names ideas! At the beginning of the year we work a lot on our NAMES! Working on names is a common skill for primary teachers. After all, our names are important. NOTHING sends a prek-k teacher into more panic than when you approach a student on day 1, ask them for their name, and they respond with a blank stare.

It’s important that we work on multiple areas of our names: orally stating our name when asked, identifying our name in print (mailbox, locker, etc.), and writing our names. Working with their own name is usually one of the first areas a child will explore the concepts of reading and writing. Working on names gives students additional opportunities for fine motor work as which is imperative for later writing needs.

In this post, we will focus on activities that you can implement TOMORROW to work on names for students. I wanted you to leave this post with ready to go activities that you can immediately implement so let’s get started!
