Kindergarten Guided Math

Thank you so much for joining me today for a post all about KINDERGARTEN GUIDED MATH! Before I start in explaining the program… I’d love to share what fellow kindergarten teachers are saying about the program!

“This is a great curriculum for our students. We have a multitude of levels in our co-teach classroom and this allows us to break our room into groups so we can give each student what they need. This curriculum helps us to plan with each other easily so that we know what we are doing and getting the materials together does not take a lot of time. It is neatly organized and easy to read and plan with. Thank you for helping us be able to plan without taking a lot of time!”

“This is by far my favorite way to teach math to kindergarten. It is way better than a boxed curriculum and I love how developmentally appropriate the resources and lessons are. Very engaging and there are lessons for every student in your class, no matter where they are academically.”

“WOW WOW WOW! I thought KinderMath was amazing and then this one came. Thank you. You can use this resource on its own or combine it with KinderMath. There are so many activities and you can pick and choose. I love the fact that there are differentiated levels. You can use this to supplement any math curriculum. Thank you, Tara!”

What is Kindergarten Guided Math?

Kindergarten Guided Math units are teacher-created, kid-tested, and most importantly kid-approved! Kindergarten Guided Math takes away that monotonous way of teaching math where students sit and listen to the teacher TEACH math. Instead, Kindergarten Guided Math encourages guidance from the teacher while the students TEACH and LEARN math through hands-on and engaging math activities with their partners.

Kindergarten Guided Math units are made up of 10 instructional days each, but can be adjusted to fit your classroom needs. The units include assessment pieces as a way to ensure student growth over the unit. These are just a few highlights you’ll see using the Kindergarten Guided Math Units; kids talking about math, kids using manipulatives, activities that are fun + engaging, learning that requires critical thinking!

Kindergarten Guided Math curriculum is a 35 week math curriculum that includes lesson plans that break down a 45 minute block math time. The units will also include any and all cards needed to make the lessons successful! You will just need to provide the manipulatives like teddy bears or cubes!

Kindergarten Guided Math is a simple print and teach math curriculum. No more tracking down ideas, worksheets, cards, etc! I have it covered!

These are just a few highlights you’ll see using the Kindergarten Guided Math:

Below is a quick overview of how each unit will be set up.  You will notice that you might see more than you can squeeze into one day.  That is okay and what is best about Kindergarten Guided Math. Kindergarten Guided Math is made with the teacher in mind, so pick and choose from the material based on students’ need.

A closer look at the unit: Within each unit of Kindergarten Guided Math unit you will receive 10 teaching lessons, or ten days of instruction.  Each lesson will come with a daily practice sheet as well.  Along with the lessons and practice sheets, the unit will also include any and all student cards/hands-on materials needed for the students to be successful. The lesson will also have a paired interactive notebook sheet and aligned center mat. The teacher will only need to provide the manipulatives, such as cubes or counters.

The units will also come with math talk images.  These can be printed or displayed on an interactive whiteboard.  Along with the necessary material for each week, Kindergarten Guided Math also comes with a pre and post assessment for each unit.

Below is a quick overview of how each lesson plan is set up including the math lesson breakdowns and the main headers upon the left & right sidebars. The lesson plan is broken down into five main sections: opening, small-group lessons, notes and apply & practice.

    1. Hi there! You can teach the lessons “whole group” you might just need to print more than a set of 6 because you’ll most likely have the kiddos do the activities in pairs 🙂

    1. Hi there and thanks so much for showing interest in my new Kindergarten Guided Math curriculum 🙂 The biggest difference between the KinderMath Curriculum and the Guided Math curriculum is the approach to teaching! KinderMath is designed as a whole-group approach! In KinderMath, the teacher leads the lessons at the carpet and guides the students in hands-on games with their partners. KinderMath doesn’t contain a built in time for small-group differentiated instruction or “math centers”. The Kindergarten Guided Math has all new content- none of the material overlaps and is a small-group approach. The guided math curriculum contains 10 scripted differentiated lesson plans. The lesson plans are based on teaching leveled groups (instead of whole-group at the carpet). There are lesson plans for below level, grade level and above level. The teacher will use the scripted lesson plans and student resources for the small groups. The other students will be working independently! The curriculum covers the needs of those kiddos, too! I include 4 stations for each lesson: interactive notebook, aligned center mat, manipulative mat and printable practice sheet. The new guided math units also have some fun bonuses like included custom written books (no tradebooks needed), assessments, vocabulary cards, math talk images and teaching resources! The units are also low in prep (creating material for only 6 kiddos in the group instead of an entire class).

A lot of teachers like to know if they can still use their KinderMath and the guided math and the answer is yes! The scope and sequences are nearly identical! The only difference is the guided math includes a “Counting Sets to 20” unit! Teachers can pick and choose what they like the best from each!

I recently hosted a Facebook live that shows an overview of the unit and then a detailed look at the first 10 lessons! Here is a link to the video:

I also try to show an extensive preview to help make your decision a little easier as well 🙂

Please let me know if I can assist in any other way!

      Thanks!
      Tara

  1. Can Kinder Guided Math be used instead of KinderMath? My students this year are having a really hard time with whole group instruction and I thought about attempting a small group approach instead. Thank you!

  2. Hello Tara,

Can you please share how you rotate your students during guided math, small group/independent work and ensure that they are completing all 4 station activities. I’m very excited to use this program! Thank you!!!

  3. Hi there!
I just purchased this and am very excited to use it with my Kinders. I wondered if you had a post on how you explain the independent work to the students and how you get them started with the 4 stations? I am thinking you must do it whole group before you pull them for small groups so they all know what they are doing? Do you have them rotate by group to each station? Thanks!
