A peek into my week… and a {freebie}

Hey there!  Wowzers!  Last week was most definitely a roller coaster!  It was back to work Monday, Open House Monday evening, and back to school for students on Thursday.  Well all of that in its self would have been quite the week.  However, last week was also filled with fertility treatments, several trips to the DR and hour away from my hometown, and some sad tears.  I made it through and as soon as Thursday came and I had 22 students yelling Teacher!  Teacher!  my mind had wondered away from the tears and I am now focusing on the 22 youngsters I get to make a difference for.

Our first 2 days of school seemed like a whirl wind!  Here’s what it looked like on the first day:

Meet students on the playground, come in and while students are coloring a picture I am taking attendance and lunch count, meet at the carpet and discuss carpet expectations, move to discussing restroom expectations & use the restroom.  Afterwards, I read my Recess: Rules and Safety book.  They loved having Tommy teach them how to be safe.  {see more for this below}  After reading this book we made our way out to the playground.  The teachers discussed how to play safely and then the students had the chance to show us how to play safe.  Next, we went back inside and the students colored themselves playing safely at recess using a printable from the recess book.

Afterwards, we read the Lunchroom: Rules and Safety book, went to the restroom, and practiced doing our jobs at recess.  After lunch, recess, and specials we met Pete the Cat… ate snack and it was time to go home!  Such a great start to the year.

Day 2 we made these portraits…grab your freebie below!

I thought some might enjoy taking a sneak peak at my lesson plans so I am attaching those below.  My district uses a Reading Series, Journeys, this covers Reading Workshop & Phonics/Word Work.  We also use a Math Series, Math Connects.  Let me know if you have any questions about my plans!

Above I mentioned my Recess & Lunchroom: Rules & Safety books.  Well…. I also have 2 more versions- restroom & hallway.  I just love how these books & corresponding printables turned out.  After making the recess packet I contacted Scrappin Doodles about corresponding clip art and she came through completely!  The clip art is adorable and so practical.  Here is the complete bundle.  It sells for $8.50. You can also purchase the packets separate.  Click below to view on Tpt!

Have a great week!

    HI Tara!

    Your week looks awesome and I really love your lesson plan format. I wish I had such a nice long day with my kinders (ok, maybe not the first month…)We are still only 1/2 day. I can't fit in nearly what you do and it frustrates me!

    I am so sorry for your sad tears…don't give up!

    Thank you for sharing your personal and professional life with us. I am so sorry about your sad news.

    I love your first week lesson plans! I am wondering if you can do a post and expand a little bit and explain all the different parts of your day–from how you do your daily 5 to what your math lessons and rotations look like,what "move to the stroke" is, etc. I would love, love, love more detail to really understand how your day works. And WOW! You have a long day! ctillack@verizon.net
