May Giveaways, Freebies, & More!

Quick….someone pinch me!  Are there really only 16 days left of school {just saying…two of those 16 are early outs}.  Yes, it’s true!  I also can’t believe that it’s pretty much MAY! It’ coming like now….I mean I guess May goes hand-in-hand with the end of the year, but golly!  I like getting these monthly posts up for those that are prepping for the month!  It gives you some “springboard” ideas for your kiddos!  Also, be sure to scroll to the end for a GIVEAWAY and some FREEBIES!  Double wins!

Alright, up first… math centers!

My summer math centers have students build upon their addition and subtraction skills…as well as time!  With addition this year we focused a lot solely on combinations of 10!  We felt these were the facts kids needed to be solid on before first grade!

Blowing Combinations to 10 :  In this activity the students match the addition statement card to the bubble to make the combination of 10.  3 and ____ {7}.  Students can also take it to a paper task with the corresponding recording sheets.

Fishin’ Up Clocks
:  It seems like time is becoming this thing of the past!?  It’s sad because telling time is a LIFE SKILL.  This activity is fun and easy enough for primary learners to still be successful with it. There is also a corresponding paper/pencil task for students to follow up with.

Buggy Subtraction: Clip It! In this activity students will solve the subtraction problem and “clip” the correct answer give.

Juicy Addends:  This activity is perfect for getting students to practice addition with 10.  Students will roll the “addition problem” cube.  They will then roll the second cube to give them the missing addend.  Students will then record their answers onto the recording sheet.

Popsicle Make Ten Match-Ups: This activity has been a favorite for my kiddos!  Students match the missing popsicle top/bottom to make ten!  They will then cut out the matching pieces for their recording sheet!

If you’d like to check out these math centers you can click below!  You’ll also have the opportunity to win them below!

Now on to literacy centers for the summer-ish season!  It’s just amazing to see what the kids are capable of at this time of the year…not only through our assistance, but also during their independent work time…and the fact that they are also being INDEPENDENT! 🙂

Sunny New Words:  This activity works on students manipulating sounds within words!  This is a skill I feel is key to work on this time of the year.  The kids are discovering their ability to now only read a words, write words, but also to make new words!

CCVC Sailboats in the Water Match-Up: Well, we went from matching capital to lowercase letters…now we are matching CCVC words to their pictures! Oh Yes! 🙂  Students can also recording their answers on the corresponding sheet.

Real and Nonsense Sort: Sorting ocean creatures to the matching “nonsense” board or “real” board.  Students will then record their answers!

Beach Ball Line Up: Sight words and beach balls?  It seriously doesn’t get any more fun than that!  Students will pull the sight word card and then build the word using the beach balls.  Students will then record the sight words on the matching sheet.

CH/TR Seashell Sort:  #blesstheirhearts but some kiddos struggle with the ch/tr sound within words.  This sort will help them continue that practice.  Students will listen to their beginning sound of the word and place the card within the matching bucket.  I like to write the words on the back of the cards to help with self-checking!

You can view these centers by clicking below!

Also, new for May is Teachers Taking Back Their Weekends!  I am super excited about this month’s version! {see the preview below}.  It covers a variety of themes and is just FUN! 🙂

Included in the packet as always is 2 literacy centers and 2 math centers!  This literacy center, Gone Buggy with Blends, asks students to match the blend to the picture!  Students will also record their matches on the sheet!

I admit that I am not the biggest fan of write the room, but I thought I could try something new since it IS May! 🙂  This adorable write the room is summer/beach themed!

Standardized measurement is something that went away after my first year of teaching.   I understand it is a difficult concept, but it is a life skill right?!  This math center, Measure up the Beach, gives students items from the ocean/beach.  They will use their snap cube stick to measure each and record their answers!

This is another center that meets my kiddos’ need right now!  We have now covered addition and subtraction.  They did really well and have a basic understanding of both concepts.  However, I noticed that they did not always check over their answers, 2-1=2…“Well you had 2 apples and I took one apple, how could you still have 2 left if I took one away?”  So, in this activity students will have to decide if the card is TRUE or FALSE!  I included addition and subtraction.  You could also choose to mix the two- -ahhh tricky!

You can enjoy your last few weeks with freebie with this packet!

Now it’s time for the GIVEAWAY!  I will be selecting the random winner on Sunday, May 3rd!  That lucky winner will win all three packets I mentioned above! 🙂

And now it’s time for some FREEBIES!  I have been including this writing paper each month so you’ve found some use for it!  Also, please note that this packet is May AND June for those of that continue to work as I summons myself to the pool 😛

You can click below to download the dated paper!

The first week of May marks our fluency benchmark test EEEEK!   I am one that likes data and I really don’t have anything against the test itself…I just know as a teacher that it’s so important to look past red, yellow, and green….and reflect back to day 1…when those few “red” students could not even write their own names.  Now they are stating 40 letter names in a minute…it might be “red” but their progress overrides “red” HANDS-DOWN!

I did send this home this week for parents to help their kiddos get ready!  I only send this kind of homework home {test prep} if it’s fun!  So I tried hard to make it as fun as possible 😉  You can snag this freebie by clicking below!  It comes with LNF, LSF, NWF, and PSF!

May is a time to look ahead for the future and if you’re kiddos are talking about their careers you might want to grab this career day freebie writing!

And last but not least…if you’re looking for fun way to keep the kiddos engaged in their writing over the summer you can view my summer writing send home packet!  We a lot of times don’t think about writing over the summer as much as we do reading. However, I feel that the kids have worded REALLY hard to build up their writing stamina and it’s very important to keep up that over summer as well!

This packet sells for $3 in my store, but purchase any packet of mine {$3 or more} between now and Sunday, May 3rd and get this one FREE!  Just email me after your purchase and I’ll send it your way!

Have a super weekend and good luck on the giveaway!
