CCVC and R-Controlled Chip and Swipe – Free Phonics Activity with Magnetic Letter Chips

Guided Phonics + Beyond

Unit 5 - Endings

Download free CCVC and R-controlled chip and swipe cards. Students map each sound with chips, then swipe to blend the full word.

These Chip and Swipe cards build on the original CVC version but expand practice into CCVC words (stop, clip, flag) and R-controlled words (car, bird, star, fork). Students use magnetic letter chips to map each phoneme, then swipe a wand across the chips to blend the word.

  • Map sounds by placing chips for each phoneme

  • Swipe across chips with the magnetic wand while blending sounds into the whole word

  • Includes cards for both CCVC clusters and R-controlled vowels

  • Great for multisensory phonics practice using manipulatives

  • Works in small groups, intervention, or as an independent literacy center

Don’t have letter chips or a wand? Use any small manipulatives or counters to represent sounds, then “swipe” with a finger or pencil instead.
