CVC Free Sound Stretchers for Phonics Blending and Segmenting Practice

Guided Phonics + Beyond

Unit 2 - CVC

These free CVC sound stretchers guide students to segment and blend words with visual dots and arrows—supporting phonics and decoding mastery.

These CVC Sound Stretchers are designed to give students a visual and tactile way to practice segmenting and blending CVC words. They’ll say each sound in a word, stretch it across the dots, and then follow the arrow to blend it back together.

  • Students say and tap each sound in a CVC word (e.g., /k/, /a/, /t/)

  • The arrow reminds them to blend the sounds smoothly into the full word (cat)

  • Supports phonemic awareness and decoding in line with the science of reading

This free resource can be used in small-group instruction, literacy centers, or as an independent practice tool. The visual supports help students build confidence with stretching and blending sounds, making word reading more automatic.
