Free CVCC and R-controlled Pop to Spell cards. Students pop sounds for each phoneme and then spell the full word.
The Pop to Spell cards give students a multisensory way to practice CVCC and R-controlled words using Amazon fidget pop blocks (or any alternative counters). Each word is broken into sound parts so students can physically “pop” each phoneme before spelling the word.
Example CVCC word: mask → /m/ (green), /a/ (yellow), /s/ (red), /k/ (red)
Example R-controlled word: star → /s/ (green), /t/ (yellow), /ar/ (red)
Pop each sound as it’s spoken, then blend to read the word
Students finish by writing the full word for encoding practice
Great for small groups, independent centers, or intervention
This activity links phonemic awareness and phonics with kinesthetic learning, helping students internalize word structures through hands-on play.
