Free digraphs and CCVC mapping mats. Students say, tap, and map words with the color-coded system for blending and decoding.
These Digraphs and CCVC Mapping Mats help students build strong phonics skills with a simple, color-coded routine. Students say the word, tap each sound, and map the phonemes using manipulatives. The built-in color coding provides visual support for sound placement and reinforces orthographic mapping in a science of reading-aligned way.
Color Code System:
• Green = beginning consonant or digraph
• Green + Green = double consonants/blends at the beginning (ex. frog)
• Yellow = vowel sound
• Red = final consonant or digraph
Example words: ship → /sh/ (green), /i/ (yellow), /p/ (red) • snap → /s/ (green), /n/ (green), /a/ (yellow), /p/ (red)
Students use counters, cubes, or chips to map each sound
Reinforces decoding, blending, and phoneme-grapheme mapping
Works well for small-groups, literacy centers, or independent practice
Flexible for any set of digraph or CCVC words the teacher wants to target
These mats provide a structured, multisensory way for students to connect sounds to print while practicing blending and spelling.
