Teach handwriting the right way from the very beginning with these free Back to School Pre-Writing Letter Strokes Digital Slides! Perfect for whole-group instruction using PDF, Google Slides, or PowerPoint.

Build a strong handwriting foundation before students ever write a letter! These Back to School Pre-Writing Letter Strokes Digital Slides provide explicit, teacher-led instruction to help students master the foundational strokes every letter is built upon. The lessons are designed as quick 5-10 minute mini lessons, making them an easy addition to your handwriting block or phonics instruction.

Rather than expecting students to immediately form letters correctly, these lessons intentionally teach the individual movements that make up the alphabet. Students develop pencil control, fine motor skills, muscle memory, and correct paths of motion before transitioning into formal handwriting instruction.

Each lesson follows a consistent, interactive routine. Students listen to the stroke name and path of motion, repeat it aloud, skywrite together, skywrite independently, trace it in their palm, and then practice writing it on a whiteboard or handwriting mat. Every stroke uses the same familiar instructional sequence to build confidence and consistency.

This free set includes instruction for the following letter strokes:
