Free CVCe Write It cards. Students tap sounds, then write letters in color-coded boxes to practice silent e decoding.
These CVCe Write It cards make silent e decoding visual and structured by using color-coded boxes for each sound. Students say the word, tap the sounds, then write each letter in its matching box. The final orange box reminds them of the silent e — present in the spelling but not blended when reading aloud. This is a science of reading-aligned routine that works well in small-groups, centers, or interventions.
Example word: game → /g/ = green, /a/ = yellow, /m/ = red, silent e = orange
Reinforces the long vowel + silent e pattern with a visual reminder
Students connect phonemes to graphemes while writing the word
Can be laminated for dry-erase practice or cut into cards for small-group drills
Great for decoding practice, encoding reinforcement, or handwriting routines
By making the silent e visible with the orange box, students gain a concrete way to understand how it changes the vowel sound without adding its own.
