Guided Phonics + Beyond

Unit 4 - CVCE

Free CVCe word builders. Students blend and read silent e words using color-coded support for decoding.

These CVCe Word Builder cards help students decode and blend silent e words step by step. Each word is broken into parts with color-coded dots to guide phoneme recognition and blending. Students tap each sound, blend them together, and read the completed word. This method supports phoneme-grapheme mapping and aligns with the science of reading, making it a perfect tool for small-groups and literacy centers.

  • Example: c–ake → cake

    • Green dot = initial sound (/c/)

    • Yellow dot = vowel-consonant chunk (/ā/ + /k/)

    • Red dot = final blend into the full word (cake)

  • Visual color cues scaffold blending and decoding

  • Great for repeated decoding drills, partner practice, or independent work

  • Encourages orthographic mapping and silent e fluency

  • Simple, hands-on activity for science of reading small-group lessons

These cards make blending silent e words visual and interactive, helping students build decoding accuracy and confidence.
